Republic of Zambia

Zambia is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe to the south, Botswana and Namibia to the southwest, Angola to the west, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north. Zambia is known for its diverse landscapes, which include savannas, forests, and wetlands.

Zambia’s economy is heavily reliant on mining, particularly copper mining, which is the country’s largest industry and major export. Agriculture also plays a significant role in the economy, with maize being the staple crop.

Zambia harbors potential Red Locust breeding areas in winter seasons. Known outbreak areas, identified through extensive surveys, include Mweru wa Ntipa Plains, Simalaha plains, and the Kafue Flats.

Host Ministry

Zambia is a depository of the International Red Locust Control Organisation for Central and Southern Africa, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture. The ministry plays a crucial role in supporting industries by producing essential raw materials, generating exportable agricultural goods, and creating employment, particularly in rural areas. The ministry also plays a key role in providing foods security to the country and the region.

In addition, being a host country/ministry, Zambia plays a central role in coordinating and facilitating regional activities.
