Zimbabwe is a landlocked country located in the southern part of Africa. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the west and southwest, Zambia to the northwest, and Mozambique to the east and northeast. Zimbabwe’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, mining, and manufacturing. The country is rich in natural resources, including gold, platinum, and diamonds. Agriculture is a key sector, with maize, tobacco, and cotton being the main crops.

Zimbabwe has a subtropical climate with many local variations. The southern areas are known for their heat and aridity, while parts of the central plateau receive frost in winter. The Zambezi valley is known for its extreme heat, and the Eastern Highlands usually experience cool temperatures and the highest rainfall in the country.

Zimbabwe is one of the countries in the southern region that is affected by African Migratory Locusts (AML). Breeding areas for AML in Zimbabwe include Chiredzi District and Low Veld

Host Ministry

IRLCO-CSA is hosted by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development. Agriculture in Zimbabwe is critical for food security, employment, and economic stability. The Ministry of Agriculture is tasked with the development and regulation of the agricultural sector, including land use in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe is one of the countries in the southern region that is affected by Red Locusts. Breeding areas for Red Locusts in Zimbabwe include Chiredzi District, and Low Veld, where breeding usually occurs during the season.
